Personally, I do not believe this ‘top hat and tofu alliance’ will be good for Britain, or that it will last the duration of Parliament. I do know that Labour is now the sole main Opposition to the Cameron-Clegg Government, and I do know that soon Labour will have an excellent new Leader to take us forward and renew the party.

I am confident that at the next General Election, whether it be in six months or five years, Labour will be in a strong position to regain the nation’s full confidence and to win back key seats, including Shrewsbury.

I also know that Labour cannot fight back effectively unless we have the full and formal support of wonderful people like you. So I would like to invite those of you who are invaluable Labour supporters and sympathisers but not yet Labour members to join the Labour Party today if you are able.

Whether you are in Shrewsbury or not, please consider joining the Labour party and help us to challenge the Cameron-Clegg Government effectively. Many of you have already done a lot to support Labour and to support me, and I am deeply grateful for that. But we need more bright, switched-on, energetic people like you at the heart of the party as members and decision-makers. Now is a great time to make that extra commitment and sign up.

Since yesterday, over 3,000 people across Britain have joined Labour, and many more are doing so every hour. And if you’re under 27, you can join for just £1.

Charles West has responded to the emails and conversations about the signs stating that they are all legal despite the guidance given to all candidates by the local council and electoral commission that all signs (other than small A4 lamp post signs) MUST be on private property and not on council or pubic land.

Whatever way you look at it, strapping two signs (one that has to be the largest campaign sign i’ve ever seen on a wooden post)  into the middle of a public hedgerow and held in place with cable ties is clearly on public land and not in accordance with the standards issued to all candidates.

I wasn’t going to write about this, I was happy to speak to Charles West informally as a fellow candidate and let him rectify the situation himself with no harm done but because of his arrogant responses and that I find it disgusting that Charles West, a candidate that states that fairness is at the heart of his campaign, shows blatant contempt for the standards set by the local council and electoral commission and uses signs that are far to large and are situated on public land instead of having regulation signs on private property.

I have recorded a short video next to the signs on Sunday evening to illustrate my point. As of this morning (Wednesday 5 May) the signs are still there.

Is this fair to all of the other candidates who are conducting themselves in a professional and fair manner?

Is this fair to the Green Party, UKip, Impact Party, Conservative Party and myself as Labour Party candidate to have  one candidate (for the Liberal Democrats) show total disrespect for the practice of electoral campaigning?

Is Charles West really someone who you want to honestly represent your views in parliament?

With the election just one day away, the time has come to decide if you want a Liberal Democrat MP who talks about fairness at any given opportunity but breaks campaign rules and carries out a very unfair campaign

Jon Tandy, the Labour party candidate for Shrewsbury and Atcham, said today that he is delighted and honoured with the endorsement of his electoral campaign by senior government minister John Spellar.

John Spellar, Comptroller of Her Majesty’s Household and Assistant Chief Whip to the Labour Party, said on a recent visit to the Prostar Stadium, home of Shrewsbury Town Football Club, that he “looks forward to welcoming Jon Tandy into the house of commons as the next member of parliament for Shrewsbury and I know that he will be a good team player.”

Jon Tandy re-affirmed his dedication to his parliamentary campaign and to the people of Shrewsbury and Atcham promising to “represent the interests of everyone in Shrewsbury and Atcham regardless of their political persuasion and to foster a future fair for all.

I will continue to campaign strongly on local issues that are important to the people, such as affordable housing, local services, environmental issues, education and employment opportunities.

Above all we must ensure that the economic recovery is strong in Shrewsbury and Atcham and that frontline services are protected as the deficit is reduced responsibly.
I want to make it clear that the fight for Shrewsbury and Atcham has always been between Labour and the Conservatives and that recent history has proven that a vote for the Liberal Democrats will only result in the election of a Tory MP in the constituency.

The Constituency needs powerful representation, which at the present time it is simply not receiving. Strong deeds, not fine words, are vital at present.”

That means that, unlike the Tories, we can guarantee extra maths and English tuition for all 7 to 11 year olds who fall behind, maintaining funding for police officer numbers and a new pledge of a guarantee of cancer test results within a week.

In contrast, the Tories refuse to match our commitment to protect investment in frontline policing, frontline schools  and Sure Start Centres. They would also get rid of Labour’s guarantees for patients – including scrapping the right to see a cancer specialist within two weeks of GP referral.

I hope that gives you a good idea on what I will be standing for at this election, which promises to be very close.  Labour will be  fighting for a future fair for all.  A future that helps families get on in life and doesn’t put the recovery and the services we all rely on at risk.  The Conservatives would put the recovery at risk, threaten public services and make life tougher for families – they are a change you can’t afford.
