Harlescott Crossroads Lane Change Campaign Demonstration

I would like to take an opportunity to thank everyone for their support today with the demonstration to highlight the dangers of the Harlescott Crossroads in Shrewsbury.

Over 200 people turned out to voice their concerns and let the local council know that they are not willing to accept the dangerous crossroads that has already claimed one innocent life.

A big thank you to all of the supporters on and offline as I know many of you could not make it today due to work commitments etc but passed on their best wishes and support to myself and other people co-ordinating the campaign.

This campaign is about everyone whether you could make it today or not, its about the community standing together for positive change. It is everybody’s right to have a safe place to work, live and play.

The vast majority of drivers were positive and courteous and were tooting their horns and waving in support of the campaign and I am glad to say everything went very well and I truly hope that the increased coverage of the dangers will prompt the local council to make the changes to the lane layout before another life is lost.

You can support the campaign on Facebook or by writing to your local councillor to let them know how you feel about this issue. There is a petition online for you to register your name and support the campaign.

Claire Bennett and myself carried out radio interviews with BBC Shropshire and the newly launched ShropshireLive.com website and press photographers were in attendance at the event who were very positive towards our views.

Beacon Radio and Radio Shropshire also had live coverage from the event from local freelance journalist Chris Pritchard whom I also had a video interview with which can be seen below.
